Europe bound Plateau United top scorer, George Akpabio hit a brace against Gombe United on Wednesday to increase his tally to 12 goals this term.
This is the second time Akpabio will score twice in a match after his goals gave Plateau United victory over Zamfara United on match day 24.
Bernard Ogbe’s Gombe United opening scoring in the first half, but the Bitrus Bewarang tutored side came back stronger in the second half to record a 2-1 win that will boost their relegation battles.
The youngster finished an impressive move by former Juth’s star, Musa Adamu, to score his 11th goal and later converted a spot kick to take his tally to 12 goals.
Akpabio’s match day performance will no doubt gladden the hearts of his European suitors.
Clubs from Austria, Norway, Serbia and Turkey are already scrambling for the services of the youngster, who is enjoying his debut in the Nigeria Premier League.
“It’s not easy to score two goals in one match, but credit must go to my teammates. I dedicate both goals to my teammates, our coaches and the fans, who have remained behind us,” Akpabio said SuperSport.com.
Bewarang told SuperSport.com that the club will continue the battle for survival till the last day.
Plateau United now have 30 points from 31 matches and will travel to Niger Tornadoes in search of points to retain their Premier League status on match day 32.
