Ajax Cape Town’s captain, Granwald Scott has warned detractors that the Urban Warriors can still claim the Absa Premiership.
Speaking to PSL.coza, Scott said he backs Ajax to get back into the race for the league. Ajax has been training in Johannesburg as part of their preparations for the second round of the Absa Premiership.
Scott, who recently toured with the Bafana squad to Equatorial Guinea, said it was imperative for the Urban Warriors to get a good start to the season round. Their next league match will be against Platinum Stars on the 15th of February.
“Everyone in the team is happy and excited about the second round because we ended the year on high spirits, winning our last three games, so we looking forward to hosting Platinum Stars at home.
“Our main aim is get the three points and make sure that we get off on a positive foot and set ourselves to compete for the league title.”
“The confidence is there but we don’t want to get carried away by the fact that we come from back to back wins. We are a good side, so we will be looking to do our best on the day.”
The 24 year old midfielder has been captaining the side since August last year.
“Being the captain of the team has boosted my confidence immensely and again, the Bafana call up was an extra push in the right direction with regards to working hard. This year, I would like to stay injury free, play regularly for my team and be part of the Bafana set-up even when the regular overseas based players are called up,” Scott said.
Platinum Stars haven’t won a match in their last three outings and will have to be on top of their game to dismantle the Urban Warriors defence. However; Scott remains humble about his side’s recent form.
“We are in a more comfortable position than them but we won’t underestimate Platinum stars. The window is open at the moment, so you won’t know who they might have signed and so forth,” he added.
