Nigerian forward, George Akpabio, has told SuperSport.com that he's ready to make his debut for Ajax Cape Town in South Africa's Premier Soccer League on Wednesday night.
The Nigerian, who scored 17 goals as a rookie in the Nigeria Premier League last term, joined the "Urban Warriors" in January, after impressing Ajax gaffer, Maarten Stekelenburg.
SuperSport.com learnt that the forward has been named in the squad to play Platinum Stars at The Cape Town Stadium, which was used for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
Stekelenburg has praised the player's contribution since he made his debut during the friendly against Zambian side, Zesco United.
“George slotted into the squad with ease. I like his attitude and work ethic at training. He is a quality player and we will give him a run tonight (Wednesday),” Stekelenburg told the club's website.
Interestingly, Akpabio said he's in the right frame for his debut.
"I'm not under pressure. I just want to contribute my quota to the success of a big team like Ajax. I'm already used to the squad and ready for the challenge," he stated.
The forward said he is delighted with the opportunity of playing at the famous Cape Town Stadium, which was used for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
"It's one of the best in the world. I'm happy that I now have the chance to play at the magnificient stadium. The facilcities here are wonderful," he said to SuperSport.com.
Akpabio is the fifth foreigner at the club. Others include Antonio Correia (Angola), Sander Westerveld (The Netherlands) as well as the Zimbabwean duo of Khama Billiat and Tafadzwa Rusike.
The game starts at 7:30pm local time (6:30pm Nigerian Time) at the Cape Town Stadium.
Ajax are seventh on the log with 24 points from 15 matches.
